Richard Skipper Celebrates! Brooklyn Theatre reviews
Total disappointment
At this same venue previously, we saw Richard Skipper Celebrates! and enjoyed it so much that we jumped on the opportunity to see him again. The band did not have the magic either. The first time we saw Richard Skipper Celebrates! and his band it was magical. They were so in sync and were dressed to the nines. What a huge let down. His violin player was incredible (was not the same person this time around). The beginning of the concert had to endure 30 minutes, yes, 30 full minutes of black and white movies that inspired Richard Skipper Celebrates!. I do not mind learning about an artists’ inspirations, however this was excessive. Sadly, Richard Skipper Celebrates! had to smoke cigarettes during the concert since he clearly could not last 2 hours without further destroying his lungs. How heartbreaking is that? I did not pay hundreds of dollars to watch snippets of old movies for 30 minutes before he even came on stage. He is so talented and is such an interesting character that I can’t help to feel so disappointed. Smoking his entire life has not been kind to his voice either (not surprising; just sad). The good thing is, he seemed to enjoy himself in spite of the crowd being a complete dud (very strange—my hubby and I attend a lot of concerts and this one had the worst crowd we have seen so far). He also played non-stop for 2 hours which I am grateful. I wish the best to him but will not spend the money again.
